There's a humanitarian crisis going in India - 20K families losing someone to COVID, and 2M people getting COVID / wk. Hospitals are full (like run out of oxygen cylinders full). Ideally in this situation, you want 0 new cases because your healthcare system can't handle any more.
Unfortunately, India is reporting an effective reproduction # of around 1.4 ~ for every 2 COVID cases there's 1 extra case caused by such high viral transmission.
2 Million cases a week and growing.
We should really be selling, transferring, donating - whatever we want to call it - Surplus (extras!) doses to India at this time. US vaccination supply is set to vastly outpace demand in May, and that doesn't even account for the 10M Johnson & Johnson + 30M AstraZeneca doses coming within the month.
India just can't get out of this hole without more vaccines
