It's quite unbelievable** that the average age of a sitting Senator in the US is 63 years old - especially when you take into account that the retirement age is 66 years.
It's especially concerning to me in 2021 and beyond - crypto / virtualReality / autonomousDriving / fakeNews / privacy - the list of tech advancements goes.
Lindsey Graham in 2015 said he had never sent an email in his life before (hopefully that was an exaggeration), but to me it represents the status of US lawmaker knowledge on 21st century technologies.
There used to be a department called the 'Office of Technology Assessment'. The brightest minds worked together to get AHEAD of where science and technology were headed, and then helped Congress design the right policies.
Today that office has been shut down for over 25 years - it's anyone's guess how far behind we are on (1) understanding the scope of the impact of these technologies and (2) ensuring basic regulations to minimize bad actors.
