American Airlines (the entire industry and the company specifically) are not in great shape - a very understandable statement amidst COVID. Travel has slowed down.
Something I noticed while flying (sample size of 1):
- Airline staff are concerned about what’s coming next. They aren’t alone, but they are worried (George Anders' workforce confidence index places airlines towards the bottom unfortunately)
- Every ticket counts. Airlines don’t seem to mind being late just to make sure every last person hops on and pays for their flight. These aren’t normal times, so every penny may count.
It’s a really tough time to be an airline CEO, but I guess navigating any crisis (even a pandemic) is in the job description
