So the USPS has been historically unprofitable (lost $8.8B in their 2019 fiscal year) - but that's really not a fair number to look at.
The postal service is after all - a service, and looking for profits from an entity that ensures prescriptions, insulin, and stimulus checks get delivered to all (rich and poor) for a tiny cost.
But then - there was a move to remove 10% of mail sorting machines: that's equivalent to roughly 106,000,000 less mail sorted in a month.
The kicker - USPS has recently already seen delays in 20+% of mail deliveries in places like central Pennsylvania and northern Ohio.
- You already deliver mail late
- You will soon have to deliver VOTES
- You get rid of mail sorting capacity (100M)?
The takeaway being that the USPS clearly needs funding for now
